How to use D2L email or Instant Messages

The Email Tool

About GHC D2L Email

The Email tool allows you to send email within D2L. You can also organize received mail using folders and store email addresses using the Address Book.  However, keep in mind the D2L email system is a closed system. That is, GHC D2L cannot sent or receive email to or from an external email, including your GHC email account. Also, keep in mind that the D2L email system is the best email to use to communicate with your instructor about your course grade.

Where can I find my Instructor's email address?

Your instructor will have two email addresses one within D2L and the other for GHC Office 365 mail.

What is the best way to email my Instructor email?

First, check the course syllabus for your instructor's preferred method to be emailed about course related items.

  1. Go to the Classlist in your course.
  2. Select the Instructor tab.
  3. To the right of your instructor's name is a small triangle that opens a pull-down menu. Open that menu and select send email.
  4. When the email window will open, change the Subject line.
  5. Enter you email message in the "body" area.
  6. Click the send button in the upper left.

I get a "Not Authorized" error trying to access my Email, what do I do?

From the navbar, click on your Message Alerts (envelope icon). Do you see this message?

You must complete the following quizzes for alerts to be enabled: {Quiz Name}

Once you complete the quiz detailed in the message alert, you will be able to access your email - while the quiz is in progress, your email access is disabled by your instructor.
