How do I find and submit an Assignment?

About the Assignments Tool

Your instructor may direct you to use the Assignments tool to upload and submit assignments to assignment submissions folders in D2L, eliminating the need to mail, fax, or email their work to instructors. As a student you will be able is see any directions, grading rubrics, files from your instructor, as well as assignment dates prior to submitting assignments. Instructors use the Assignments tool to see users’ submission times, download assignment submissions folders to their computer, view submissions on the Evaluate Submission page, associate assignment submissions folders to rubrics and competencies, and return submissions with grades and feedback.
In the Folder Submissions area, instructors can view users' submissions and submission dates, eliminating the need to collect assignments and making it easy to track when files were submitted.
Once your instructor grades an assignment and releases your grade, you will be able to see the grade along with feedback with the Assignments tool.

Understanding due dates and end dates

A due date is the submission deadline of an assignment in your course. This date is specific to assignments only. End dates are attached to Assignment submission folders. The end date is the final date an Assignment submission folder is available for you to submit assignments to, regardless of the due date. Once the end date of the folder is past, you are no longer able to submit an assignment, no matter what the assignment's due date is.
Special Note: If your instructor used both a due date and an end date, be sure to read the course polices as to this use for there may be a “late paper” period with a late penalty.

Why are there no assignment submission folders available to submit to?

If there are no assignment submission folders available to submit to, the instructor has added a start date that has not yet happened and/or an end date that has passed.

Check the due date of the assignment you want to submit to the Assignments submission folder. If the assignment is not due yet, check back closer to the due date. Alternatively, if the assignment is late, contact your instructor with any further inquiries relating to late submissions. If you believe that you should have access to the Assignments submission folder, contact your instructor.

Assignment Errors FAQ

These questions and answers are from the Brightspace Community.

Why am I getting an "Error: Not Authorized" message when trying to access an assignment submission folder?

The reason you are getting an “Error: Not Authorized” message when trying to access an assignment submission folder is because the link to the assignment submission folder is available in the Content tool module area but the assignment submission folder has been closed. Contact your instructor for further help with accessing this assignment submission folder.

Why am I getting an "Error: Not Authorized" message when trying to access an assignment submission folder from the Content area?

Access the Assignments area of your course and check if the folder in question is visible or if it has date restrictions in place. If date restrictions are on the folder you will only have access between the start date and the end date that appears. If the folder is not visible at all in the Assignments area, it may have been hidden or it does not exist. If this is the case, contact your instructor for clarification on where they would like you to upload your completed assignments.
